About Hiram & Solomon Cigars
Continuing in the long Masonic tradition of Brotherly Friendship and Fellowship
Records dating as far back as the mid 1800’s describe the pre-meeting tradition where cigars were distributed to the Brethren so that they could enjoy a smoke during or after a gathering. Even today, in many lodges, the practice of smoking cigars remains very much alive. This custom is considered a time for Brethren to relax, exchange ideas, and enjoy the simplicity and fellowship that is the very essence of Brotherhood.
This is what Hiram & Solomon Cigars is all about. One of our guiding principles is to bring Mason brothers together in the harmony of a good cigar. Pull up a chair, sit back, light up one of our Master Mason cigars, and enjoy the history.
As my fellow Brethren and I would enjoy our cigars together, the discussion would eventually lead to the same realization: there was no kind of accessible cigar on the market for Freemason smokers that carried the square and compass, nor any other Masonic Emblem. Upon coming to this conclusion, the topic of the conversation shifted into countless private meetings. The symposium consisted of talk concerning the possibility of creating, not only a Masonic themed cigar, but a quality cigar that would not just physically represent Freemasons all over the world, but contain within it a quality that could match the caliber of excellence that the Brethren themselves contain. The dream of creating and proudly possessing such a cigar was never extinguished in WB Ed Kashouty’s heart, a past master of Mariners Lodge #150 in Barnegat NJ.
The idea continuously reinvented itself over and over in WB Ed Kashouty’s mind. As an avid cigar smoker, each time he had held a cigar in his hand, he’d look down, imagining his own well-needed cigar as a reality that would one day, not only be in his hand, but be available to Freemasons all over the world. As the ambition continued to grow inside him, he kept researching and studying and trying to find the right place to begin the creation of his dream, Masonic Cigars.
Eventually, WB Ed Kashouty got together with his friend George Dakrat, who is also an ardent cigar smoker; Dakrat himself, being a big supporter of the ideas and principles of Freemasonry. With a perfect occurrence of events and without purposely seeking each other out, paths crossed, and WB Kashouty and Dakrat, became acquainted with Harry Rockefella, an established entrepreneur, well rounded in the tobacco industry, already having created exemplary lines of cigars. This was fate in action.
As they got to know each other, ideas of creating and branding the high quality cigar were in the midst of their discussions. Ideas of a top quality cigar geared towards Freemasons, friends, and supporters were deliberated. Before they knew it, Harry Rockefella was in Dominican Republic, taking WB Kashouty’s dream and Dakrat’s ideas and amazingly blending them together into a palpable treasure. Once Harry Rockefella had perfected the creation process of the cigars themselves, he worked alongside his own wife Jamie, bringing all the elements of WB Kashouty and Dakrat’s expectations into being.
"..and our charity boundless as the wants of our fellow creatures..”
Additionally, being one of the most fundamental aspects of Freemason Teachings, a way to incorporate charity into such a meaningful company was a must. In order to have the opportunity to give back to our supporters, Hiram & Solomon Cigars will be donating part of the sales profits to various Masonic and community charity events . Furthermore, when we attend cigar nights and other specific lodge functions, we happily make an adequate donation back to the hosting lodge.
Our only hope is that creation of this cigar will bring positive experiences to all types of people all over the world. Perhaps it will bring Brethren closer together as they bond over smoke after a meeting. Maybe it will bring a non-brother a drive to learn about Freemasonry and it’s history. Perchance our experience inspires someone else to follow their dream and never give up. At the very least, we can rest assured that we have provided a tasty, quality cigar that can appeal to everyone’s palate and represent Freemasons all over the world with pride.
We were proud to hear that we were chosen to be in the TOP 10 list of Boutique Cigars by Cigar & Spirits 2015. This was an unexpected award by one of the premiere magazines in the world, and we are honored to have made this list. Of course we owe this to our incredible craftsman who create the blends and wrap our cigars here at Hiram & Solomon Cigars. We have the best cigar talent that can be found anywhere on earth, and it shows up in each premium cigar we make. This honor from Cigar & Spirits is a small recognition of this fact.
